The BMPS Guideline (2007)
System Integrators and Power Module Suppliers need a common communication vehicle
The ”BMPS Guideline” is suggested to serve as a common database
The guideline is on the ”base technology level”. Information from consortia such as POLA and DOSA is on the next level up when it comes to complexity
This BMPS Guideline resulted from cooperation about BMPS (Board Mount Power Supply) Modules between PSMA and EPSMA as follows:
PSMA and EPSMA supported the “General Purpose Lead-free Assembly System” concept with several details of the assembly system remaining to be defined.
HDP User Group will take lead-free technology issues presented by PSMA and EPSMA into account when defining the “General Purpose Lead-free Assembly System”
HDP User Group formed a “Requirement Reference Group” enabling PSMA and EPSMA member companies to design their products to the needs of potential customers.
The BMPS Reference Group performed the Following function
Channeled the HDP User Group lead-free requirements of the “General Purpose Lead-free Assembly System” to the PSMA and EPSMA power supply organizations
Review solutions presented by the PSMA and EPSMA organizations
Process any other technical issue regarding BMPS issues of mutual interest
Achievements of the Reference Group
Surveyed the needs of system integrators and EMS providers
Defined the ”BMPS Guideline” concept
Formed of a ”BMPS Guideline Editorial Team”
Access to a technical power system technical database from Ericsson Power Modules
The Core Editorial Team assembled the comprehensive first version of”BMPS Guideline”
The Needs of System Integrators
System integrators want to have:
Well defined lead-free requirements on Board Mounted Power Supplies
Pin compatibility between functionally compliant Board Mounted Power Supplies
Industry standards for function compatibility of Board Mounted Power Supplies
No requirements for modules to be attached using e.g. “press fit technology” or manual soldering
